4-Day ScheduleOur Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course includes 25 hours of instruction over the course of 4 days. Weekend and weekday courses are available. In the classroom portion of the course, you will learn the basics of riding safety with group discussions, booklets, videos, and testing. For the range portion of the course, we supply you with a 492cc Buell Blast. The Blast is a mid-weight street bike that’s easy to handle. With this fun machine, you’ll hone in the skills that will make you ready for the road. Click here to see the dates for the 2011 schedule.Please note that exceptions to the 4-Day Schedule Format are made for classes occurring during the week. These classes typically only run 8-9 hours a day Monday through Wednesday. |
MSF and Harley-Davidson Certified InstructorsOur Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course Instructors are dedicated enthusiasts who have received certification from the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation®), as well as additional training from Harley-Davidson®. Not only that, but they are seasoned riders with years of on-the-road experience. With each class restricted to 10 students, you are guaranteed to have at least a 6 to1 Student to Instructor ratio, which makes for better personal instructional attention. |

Getting Your LicenseUpon completion of the Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course, you will receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation completion card approved by the MissouriMotorcycle Safety Program. Take this completion certificate to any DMV in the state of Missouri* and the riding test to obtain your motorcycle endorsement on your license will be waived. Most insurance companies recognize this certification and apply a discount. In Missouri, to obtain your license, you will only need to take the written test. Check out the Missouri Motorcycle Operator Manual. |
Motorcycle and GearWe provide the motorcycle, and you provide the gear. We provide you with a 2009 Buell® Blast for use in the course. It has a 492cc engine, and is relatively small and lightweight, perfect for the beginner rider. Each student must provide their own D.O.T. approved helmet, eye protection, long sleeved shirt or jacket, jeans, full fingered gloves, and boots that cover the ball of the ankle. Students will need to bring these in on the second day of the course to get approved by the instructors. |

Gearing Up for the CourseDuring your Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course here at Gateway Harley-Davidson and Buell, we offer you the oppourtunity to get completely geared up for your future riding with the help of our expert MotorClothes® Specialists. Students enrolled in our Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course can take advantage of a 20% discount during their course. |
Course Payment and PoliciesThe Rider’s Edge® New Rider Course costs $325 per student. The course fee is non-refundable within 2 weeks prior to the course start or for non-completion of the course for any reason. Please keep in mind, that every student must attend every class. Absence or tardiness will not be tolerated. If during the course, an Instructor deems that it is not safe to allow a student to proceed in the course, that person may be counseled out and will not receive a completion certificate. If a student makes it through the course safely, but is unable to pass the final evaluations, they will not receive a completion certificate. In these circumstances, the student may be given the opportunity to take the course again at the discretion of the Rider Coaches/Program Manager. Class dates are subject to change. Classes may be canceled or rescheduled due to dealership events, weather, poor enrollment, etc. We will work with students who have signed up for a class, which has been canceled by our dealership. No cancellation fees will apply. |
