Who Is The USO of Missouri?
Gateway Harley-Davidson’s largest fundraiser of the year is the motorcycle giveaway set to take place Saturday, November 5th, 2011 at 4:00pm. Our dealership staff has been selling raffle tickets to win the 2011 Harley-Davidson® FLHX Street Glide® since February. All proceeds go to support the efforts of the USO of Missouri. But what does that mean? Who are they and what do they do?
“The USO of Missouri, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization, whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare, and recreation-type services to our military personnel and their families.”
Through their facilities at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and other means, the USO of Missouri provides assistance to traveling military and their families. The offer a place to rest between flights, food to munch on, computers to check email, books to read, tvs to watch, a place to stash luggage… the list goes on and on. The USO of Missouri also hosts numerous events throughout the year to welcome military men and women home.
“The USO of Missouri serves the military and their families in the state of Missouri and the Illinois counties of Madison, Jersey, St. Clair, and Monroe. The USO of Missouri is not funded by the government, military or the United Way. We are not a part of the Department of Defense. We are financially independent from the National USO. “
This means they need help. The money they use to support the military and their families comes from private donations from people like us. The people they support are local. Their workers consist of over 600 volunteers. These volunteers staff the airport facilities, the mobile USO, and go to offsite events to try to drum up donations. Their generosity make these efforts possible.
This organization has given so much back to the troops and their families, and Gateway Harley-Davidson has been a proud supporter since 2003. In the year 2010 we were proud to present the USO of Missouri with a check for $20,000. For the 2011 year our goal is to raise $50,000 to donate to the USO of Missouri. Please help us make that possible by buying a raffle ticket and coming to our event.

Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day
Commuting. Something that changes drastically when you have a motorcycle. You have the option to enjoy the commute on a bike or take it on a car like everyone else. Of course there are other factors which determine how easy it is for you to commute on motorcycle. Do you have a job that requires you to haul things around all day? Do you have a job that requires you to wear a skirt? Do you have a job that requires you to arrive with wonderful looking hair and no bugs in your teeth? Maybe you do. Maybe you are one of the lucky individuals that leaves for work 45 minutes early just so you can take the detour so you “don’t hit traffic” and you arrive home 3 hours late because you “got caught in traffic” (which really means you got lost in the back roads on the way home).
There are many reasons to ride your motorcycle to work. Pick one and go with it.
Whoever you are, we would like you to ride to work with us on Monday, June 20th. No excuses. You should be proud to ride to work! Enjoy the commute! Turn that boring drive in and that tiring drive home into the journey of a lifetime!
We want to see proof too! Take a picture of you and your bike and post it here!
